Mongai Parish Scholarship Project

|
The Mongai Lutheran Parish, located high on the slope of Kilimanjaro has taken seriously the task of developing various projects which produce income for the express purpose of providing scholarships to their parish children and youth.
Their first completed project was an electrically powered grain milling machine. This project brought electricity to the church compound for the first time. Two additional projects have more recently been completed and include a welding shop and sunflower oil press. People from the surrounding area bring their maize and sunflowers to be processed at Mongai. The welding shop produces metal window guards used in almost all construction. The proceeds are deposited directly to the account of the parish’s Scholarship Committee. This committee is charged with the responsibility of selecting students and monitoring their progress from year to year.
Pastor Aminel Minja has served as the project development director under the supervision of Pastor Anderson Moshi. They have been very responsive in terms of reporting on the progress of the various projects and have been highly accountable in all financial dealings. This parish serves as an excellent model for parish projects in all respects but particularly in terms of how a parish can develop its own very effective scholarship program.
Number Served: 93 students
